Symbolism Movement
-
started with a group of French poets in the late 18th century and continued till the late 19th century
-
The entire Symbolist artist individually expressed experience through the subtle, also used very high symbolized language.
-
It was based on ideas shared between both artists and literary figures; a rejection of Realism and Naturalism.
-
Unlike their preceding generation they saw art as being unclear, and mysterious, and instead of looking outward into the world for their subject matter, it came from their emotions, dreams, and spirit.
-
Symbolism was the rejection on the normal and the techniques used at the time, this all led to the development of the vers libre (free verse)
